Frequently Asked Questions
Do I even need a fish finder? It's called a fishing rod.
Do I even need a fish finder? It's called a fishing rod.
Fair point — but the real question is how long it takes you to read new water. The GRYD Scout compresses what a marker float and a morning of casting tells you into ten minutes: depth, bottom contour, weed, drop-offs, temperature. It doesn't replace watercraft. It replaces time.
Will it actually show me fish?
Will it actually show me fish?
Yes, with fish icon markers and approximate size indication in real time. But the real value is the lakebed — depth changes, bars, drop-offs, weed lines. Find those features and you're fishing the right spots. Fish marks are confirmation, not navigation.
Does it need a phone, an app, or Bluetooth?
Does it need a phone, an app, or Bluetooth?
None of those. The GRYD Scout is completely standalone, the sensor transmits directly to the handheld display via its own radio signal to avoid interference. Power on, drop the sensor in the water, and it pairs automatically in under 30 seconds. No phone battery, no Bluetooth or signal drops, no app updates to worry about.
How long does setup take?
How long does setup take?
Under 30 seconds once charged. Insert 4× AAA batteries into the host (not included), charge the sensor via USB, power on, drop the sensor in the water — it auto-activates and pairs instantly.
What's the wireless range, and will it drop connection mid-cast?
What's the wireless range, and will it drop connection mid-cast?
Up to 100m, which covers the vast majority of UK bank swims. The most common cause of drops is line drag pulling the sensor off its vertical axis - reel slowly and steadily to maintain a clean sonar reading. The dedicated 433.92MHz signal means no interference from phones or other devices.
What does the screen actually show?
What does the screen actually show?
A 320×240 colour TFT display showing depth, water temperature, fish icons with size indication, and a scrolling bottom contour profile. Drop-offs appear as sudden depth jumps, bars as rises, weed as fuzzy noise, and hard bottom as a sharp defined line - all updating continuously as you retrieve.
