How To Use
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this replace my marker rod setup?
Can this replace my marker rod setup?
A marker rod tells you what's at one spot - once you've cast, found a feature, and clipped up. The Scout Pro shows you the entire bottom contour of your swim in a single retrieve, covering far more water far more quickly. Drop-offs, shelves, gravel bars, weed lines - all mapped live on screen before you've even set a rod up. It doesn't replace every element of a marker rod setup, but for reading and understanding new water quickly, it does the job faster and with significantly more detail.
How is this different to a Deeper or similar app-based fish finder?
How is this different to a Deeper or similar app-based fish finder?
The key difference is the standalone display. App-based finders require a phone, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi pairing, and are vulnerable to connection drops, battery drain on your phone, and slow setup. The Scout Pro has its own built-in colour screen - power on and it works automatically.
How does the sensor turn on?
How does the sensor turn on?
The sensor is water-activated. Two contact pins on the base of the sensor detect water conductivity. When the sensor enters the water, it powers on automatically. When removed, the sensor will shortly turn off automatically. There is no manual on/off button on the sensor itself.
What's the maximum depth and range?
What's the maximum depth and range?
The sensor detects water depth from 0.8m to 50m. The wireless range between sensor and handset is 100m under normal conditions, and up to 200m in optimum open-water conditions.
Do I need a phone or app to use the Scout Pro?
Do I need a phone or app to use the Scout Pro?
No. The Scout Pro has a built-in colour display on the handset. There is no app, no Bluetooth (and no connection drops), and no phone required.
How do I charge the sensor and the handset?
How do I charge the sensor and the handset?
The handset charges via Micro USB (5V). The sensor charges via a DC cable — both are included. A red LED indicates charging is in progress; the LED turns off when fully charged. Do not charge either unit if there is water inside. If the battery indicator on the handset flashes, stop fishing and charge before the next session.
Will it work in coloured or murky water?
Will it work in coloured or murky water?
Yes. Sonar works on sound waves, not light - water clarity makes no difference to the reading. Coloured, murky, or heavily silted water will not affect the sensor's ability to read depth and bottom contour.
Can I use it in winter / ice fishing conditions?
Can I use it in winter / ice fishing conditions?
The unit operates down to -10°C. Below that temperature the internal sensor will stop transmitting the sonar pulse. For standard winter bank fishing in UK conditions it will perform normally.
